چکیده

This paper presents a fault classification method for transmission lines based on voltage phasors using classification and regression trees (CART). The proposed method is intended to aid system operators in understanding the outputs of a PMU only state estimator. Faults are classified into four categories when the estimator is positive sequence and into ten categories when the estimator is three phase. The fault data is generated in PowerWorld and DSA Tools. The pre-fault state consists of a variety of operating conditions and loading angles of faulted lines. The fault condition comprises of different fault types, fault locations, fault impedances, and fault incidence angles. The fault classification is done using MATLAB. The approach is successfully tested on the IEEE-118 bus system. The results demonstrate that the technique developed here is effective and robust, irrespective of the pre-fault and fault conditions. Keywords— Classification and Regression Tree (CART), Fault Classification, Fault Type, Fault Voltage, Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs), State Estimation, Voltage Phasors.

Optimal Placement of Phasor Measurement Units for Improving Power System State Estimation Accuracy: A Heuristic Approach

This paper describes a heuristic approach for optimal placement of phasor measurement units (PMUs) in power system for improving state estimation accuracy. PMUs are able to measure highly accurate bus voltage phasors as well as branch current phasors incident to the buses at which PMUs are installed. Due to cost consideration of PMU placement, power grid utilities are interested in the knowledg...

Artificial Bee Colony based Optimal PMU Placement in Power System State Estimation

Advanced power system nowadays demands to ensure accurate estimate of the system states (bus voltages and angles) in order to ensure protection, monitoring, controlling and smooth running of the system. The conventional state estimator estimates the power system states based on the measurements obtained from the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. Besides, the use of synchr...

PMU-Based Matching Pursuit Method for Black-Box Modeling of Synchronous Generator

This paper presents the application of the matching pursuit method to model synchronous generator. This method is useful for online analysis. In the proposed method, the field voltage is considered as input signal, while the terminal voltage and active power of the generator are output signals. Usually, the difference equation with a second degree polynomial structure is used to estimate the co...

Online Inertia Constant and Thévenin Equivalent Estimation Using PMU Data

In this paper a new algorithm based on phasor measurements for estimating the Thévenin Equivalent (TE) and system inertia constant is proposed. The method estimates the network TE seen from a generator terminal and equivalent system inertia constant by means of phasor data that is available at Phasor Data Concentrator (PDC) center. It is shown that the parameters of the TE could be estimated at...
